This is Bobi, the dog recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest living dog. A male Rafeiro do Alentejo breed from Leiria, Portugal, Bobi passed away at the age of 31

On October 23, veterinarian Dr. Karen Becker announced on Facebook that Bobi had passed away.

“Is time ever enough? I think not. Even though Bobi lived longer than any dog in history, 11,478 days on this earth were never enough for those who loved him,” Dr. Becker wrote

Becker first met Bobi in February after the dog was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest living dog, at 30 years and 266 days. He also attended Bobi’s birthday party on May 11, when he turned 31.

Dr. Becker also quoted Leonel Costa, Bobi’s owner, who shared that the dog lived a long life thanks to “good nutrition, regular closeness to nature, the freedom to explore the living environment, and good veterinary care.”

“Bobi knew he was loved very much.” Bobi was very friendly and got along well with other cats and dogs.

In 1992, Bobi was registered with the veterinary health agency in the city of Leiria. His age was also confirmed by SIAC, the government-authorized pet database managed by the national veterinary physicians’ association.

According to the scientific journal Nature, the average lifespan of a dog is 12 years, with some small breeds reaching 13-14 years compared to larger dogs. Bobi belonged to the Rafeiro do Alentejo breed, with an average lifespan of 12-14 years

Before Bobi, the record for the world’s oldest dog belonged to Bluey, an Australian cattle dog, who lived for 29 years and 5 months.

The last photos of Bobi touched many viewers. Bobi lived a happy life and was wholly loved.
