After Gunner’s 64-year-old owner Luther passed away, Gunner was found locked in a backyard pen in dire conditions. Gunner survived for weeks by drinking rainwater and scavenging minimal food left behind. He was severely weakened, barely able to stand, and infested with thousands of ticks and fleas.
Gunner’s situation improved when the sheriff’s department contacted Bella SPCA Rescue Center in Oklahoma City. They intervened just in time, as a veterinarian determined Gunner had only hours left to live. He was transferred to Woodlake Animal Hospital for critical care, and the local community generously donated enough funds to cover all his veterinary expenses, according to the SPCA.
Despite the tragedy, Gunner found hope when his extended family adopted him after learning about his ordeal. He now lives with people who love and cherish him. The SPCA conveyed the family’s gratitude for the support received, as Gunner’s late owner, a German Shepherd enthusiast who preferred distance from family, resided in another state.
Gunner’s new owner, his late owner’s niece, thanked everyone who supported Gunner’s case. She expressed gratitude for enabling her to bring her uncle’s dog home and assured Gunner would receive love and care.
